The Reinvention of the Fashionista Backpack

Since I basically need two hands to use the walker for the next several months, my doctor recommended that I buy a backpack for all my crap. Now the only belongings I tend to carry are a wallet, little makeup case, keys, phone, pen and earbuds. I have been able to parry everything down to these simply important items. Meanwhile, the doctor didn't think even a crossbody was a good idea. I really needed to have nothing getting in the way of my hands and leg (s). I guess he didn't want me to get tangled up in the long strap or have something swing back and forth causing me to trip all over myself again.

So I got to do one of my favorite activities. I went window shopping on the Internet. This is what I found. The variety, as with everything in our material world, is amazing and varied. Below is simply a smattering. Note, I didn't go looking for the regular school backpack. Apparently, I have injured myself as designers are trying to bring back the fashionista backpack. Lucky me I have a huge choice. And no, I haven't decided on which one yet...

.....well of course the ones that could double as a downpayment for a house or a car are definitely not in the running. I just had to post them for fun.

Sitting on your ass, getting fat and having the bottom of your butt hit the backs of your knees

So now that I have accepted my fate for the next six weeks of being immobile with my broken ankle,  I have come up with something else to worry about. Butt spread. I have been able to loose about 20 pounds  over the last year. Well I think its 20 pounds. I refuse to step on a scale, but with diet and exercise I can fit into jeans I hadn't been able to wear for years. They were tight. But I got them on and zipped them up. Could even sit down without feeling like I was in a torture device. So I guess the loss was about 20 pounds, give or take the real numbers.

But now, cardio is absolutely out for months, since I can't even step on my foot. I may be able to do some free weights and sit ups but that's not really the same for fat burning exercise. So I am trying to watch what I eat and complain. I decided that that is a new form of exercise. I am going to call it "The Kvetch method." I think I will turn it into a new craze and see if I can sell it.

In truth I do miss the exercise high that I would get on a daily basis. Listen they are not kidding about that endorphin rush. That exercise high does do something for your mood and uplifts any negative feelings. It definitely made me feel alot better about myself. My self-esteem was getting a big hit.

On the other hand, just getting around on one foot with the aide of a walker is a workout in and of itself. So I think I will count that as my cardio for the time being. Believe me, by the time I get from the bed, to the bathroom, and back to the bed, I have sweated up a storm as if I ran a marathon.

Meanwhile, where the freeweights are concerned, I am going to start with the 5 pound weights and the 2 pounders and see how it goes. Simple upper body strength, sit ups and I think I will try to figure out how to do some butt exercises too. Don't want tuchas spread, which at my age actually means that the bottom of my ass falls so low it hits the back of my knees.

I think my body has suffered enough without having to live through that.

The true downside and upside of breaking your ankle....

aspect of your daily living, there is a really mean downside to breaking your ankle. You see we were going to get a kitten in the next few weeks. Unfortunately, I had to call the owners and let them know there is no way I can take care of a 6 week old kitten right now. Heck, at this moment, I can't even take care of myself.

Meanwhile, there is absolutely  no way the boys or hubby are able to raise a brand new little baby kitten. The boys don't have the patience and hubby doesn't have the time. I figure the owners will find someone else to adopt the baby cat. The owner works at our vet so I am certain she can put out an add right away and get rid of the kitten rather quickly. So as disappointed as I am, since I really wanted that fuzzy wuzzy, I will have to wait. Sometimes things are not meant to be.

Listen, hubby has been trying to work out of the home and is doing all that he can to run the boys where they need to go. Figuring out how the boys will get to work and therapy is the hard part since they don't drive. (The oldest because of his epilepsy, the youngest because of his fear. Listen when you have a child with an autism spectrum disorder who is afraid to drive, you don't push it. It is not an emergency. You take your time and help them work it out.) We decided to have them use the local taxi service to get to work and the train, while hubby will have to take them for the therapies. Figuring out the food shopping has also been interesting. Hubby has to go at night, or during the weekend, but the boys' behaviorist comes on Wednesday so we are going to have them go food shopping and run errands then as well. (Yes they used to do that with her, in fact that was the point of her coming here to help integrate them into the world, so now they can do these things with no issue.) The upside here is that hubby will finally get to see just how crazy food prices have become. In fact last night when he came home from the market, he mentioned he couldn't believe how expensive everything was. I mentioned that food prices were ridiculous and getting worse.So an upside is that when I tell him the food budget gets blown on a weekly basis he will not only understand why, but the look of incredulity will disappear.

Of course, the boys are trying to help me as much as they can when it comes to helping with the dogs, the laundry, the housecleaning, the food shopping and still doing what they like to do. In reality, an upside is that they are getting a little bit of a taste of what adulthood is like. (They did have chores before, but they are now also learning just exactly what I do on a daily basis to make all their worlds function.) Organizing and figuring out how to do the necessities in life and then adding in what you enjoy doing is a new skill and not an easy one to master. They were happy to help for the first few days, but I have noticed a bit of whining creeping in and my new name is "Pain in the Ass. " (Honestly I don't think I am that bad. Things have to get done in the house that have to get done. Moreover, the dogs need what they need, especially our really old wheaten terrier.)

Hubby did send me a picture of what our bedroom looks like now, with all the folded clothing laying in piles on the bed. He mentioned that its best that I can't make my way upstairs right now. I responded that by the time I am mobile again we are going to have to simply knock the house down and start from scratch. He didn't think that was funny. I think he's afraid I'm serious.

In truth, I am going to need months to repair the damage to my ankle. So far we have figured out how to get me into the shower (upside), how to use a walker (hubby said this was a look into my 80s) and trying to figure out how I can do some form of exercise (upside) so I don't turn into a total blob of fat over the next few months. I worked too hard to slim down and I don't want to get fat again....yes I know its about diet as well as exercise, so I am trying to be food aware. So far there have been diet hits and misses (downside).

I was also thinking how lucky I am to have the internet and TV right now (upside). I think there would be a huge amount of ennui if I had to simply sit here. Self-pity would definitely find its way into my mindset. There was plenty of that already and I said enough is enough. Luckily even sitting here on my couch I can go out into the wider world. I remembered that with wifi and internet I really am never confined by a set of walls. Whether that is good (upside)or bad (downside) for others on the internet remains to be seen.....hehehehe.

What matters most in life?

What is the most important thing in life? Money? Happiness? Love? Those things are certainly important, but what matters most is good values. What are values? They are what we consider more important than our feelings. For instance, just about everyone feels like eating junk food, but if you eat whatever you feel like eating you will end up obese and unhealthy. So then, what stops people from eating all the food they feel like eating? The answer is good values. Indeed a lack of good values is the root of virtually everything wrong with the world. In Congress....July 4, 1776 and America 2014


When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with one another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitles them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We are at a great crossroads in our nation’s history. It’s not about the amount of taxation and the ineptitude of the government. That can be changed with the power of the vote and honest elections. Our issues lie in the fact that too many in our nation take for granted the guarantees within the Bill of Rights and the Constitution without truly understanding them. These citizens are more than happy to allow government to circumvent our rights simply because a once idolized out of control, power-hungry politico man-child demands our obsequious allegiance. He tempertantrums, and threatens, obnoxiously tells those unhappy with him to "sue me," while with a pen and a phone he acts to derail and destroy the fabric of our nation, The Constitution, simply because he cannot get his way on issues.  Happily there appears  citizens, and elected members of Congress, that demands the end to the usurpation of our rights given by nature and nature’s God.

Luckily we also, do have the stop-gap of the Supreme Court. As we have scene in this last session, the 9 Supremes do honor the bulwark of the Constitution, no matter what side of the aisle appointed them to the bench. It is time that We The People understand once again our responsibilities as citizens of a free country and demand that our government adhere to the Constitutional principles that they have so casually desecrated.

Freedom and the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God (originally posted May 9, 2014)

…Our rights come not from other men, but from an omnipotent all-powerful ruler of the universe who has decreed right from wrong, good from bad, justice from evil. No one human being can deny another these rights. Hence, the usurpation of these rights is a just cause for revolt against your government, ruler or liege lord….

What happens when rights are not given by virtue of existence, but with the largesse of the political class? These rights then are not rights as delineated in the US Constitution (Bill of Rights), which as rights cannot be taken away and can only be denied under a limited scope of governmental authority. In fact, rights that come down to us by virtue of the good will of a ruler are not real rights at all, but a grant of favor by a dictatorial government. As long as you stay in good stead with the power elite then you are entitled to your humanity. But as soon as you cross that threshold of noncompliance with these overseers, then your rights, property and even your life become forfeit.

Moreover, to actually believe that mankind itself defines the ultimate reality in the Universe is the modern hubris of a limited, vacuous mind and an outreach of malignant egos. To say that in the vastness that is the Universe humankind is the epitome of what can and does direct TIME itself calls into play the rationality and sanity of the purveyors of a God-less world. It does not even have to be about an Omnipotent being as much as it is about Nature and the power of the Universe and the acknowledgement of the unknown.

To say that there is no deity above ourselves is to give ourselves the moniker of almighty God. We can now decide what is right, wrong, good, bad, justice and evil. We, the human beings of this world, are now the sole masters of all that is before us without boundary, limit or consequence. To say that God is an anachronism and that humanity is above the immutable forces that have created the galaxy, is to advance upon the human race powers that belie the mortal human being.

When we turn from the concept of something, or someone, greater than ourselves, we have no rights beyond that which we bargain for within the context of our daily lives. Life becomes a merchants market, a bazaar of old. Where for  the right argument, and the proper coin, you can buy yourself freedom for the time being. If you are lucky enough to be allowed manumission at all.

In such a world, our rights are defined by those in control of the world, rather than rights being defined by those that live in the world. Therefore, if you believe that humans are born free and that it is only mankind that created the chains of slavery, real or virtual, the concept of giving your self-worth to those who are devoid of righteousness, or honor, those who convolute democratic action with obsequiousness, demands an act of revolution. However, in the end, you need the foundation by which to challenge your servitude when you live in a world of political class tyranny, oligarchical triumphalism and identity tribalism. Therefore, you need Nature and Nature’s God. You need to understand that your humanity, your freedom, your existence is yours by right and not something you need to bargain for against an evil specter.

That foundation of the right to freedom comes from the acknowledgement that all within humanity have rights inherent in their humanity. Given to them by their uniqueness as unique individuals. It is Nature, and Nature’s God, that defines these rights so necessary for society to flourish, grow and develop. The right to proceed with your own existence and humanness in a way that is both beneficial to the self and society becomes the task of the free person and those free enough to think that it can and must be done.

It is not the fault of Nature’s God that humanbeings throughout history have perverted the gift of choice and thought that they were given by the Universe.

It is not the fault of Nature’s God that humanbeings revert into barbarism and decadence when given freedom. It is that same human weakness that causes mankind to destroy itself and then ask to be relieved of all responsibility for the choices made.

It is not the fault of Nature’s God that humans throughout history prefer an infantile existence of dependency and supplication to the hard work inherent in the existence of free expression and self-governance.

It is not the fault of Nature’s God that humans have allowed themselves to be led by the inadequate, the cruel and the profoundly evil.

It is not the fault of Nature’s God that when confronted with evil’s challenge, most times throughout history humanity has faltered, in the end thereby losing all that it means to be human.

It is not the fault of Nature’s God that humanity perverted Nature’s message in order to enslave, dehumanize and destroy other humanbeings.

It is not the fault of Nature’s God that it is easier to invoke the yoke of tyranny than it is to travel the path of Nature’s truth.

Responsibility for ones actions, distancing yourself from a scapegoat and taking the reigns to an uncertain future is frightening. On the other hand,  it is a sign of profound weakness to cower in the dark, allowing others to decide your fate, your reality and your worth. It is sheer cowardice to succumb to the fear of the unknown and allow your children to be enslaved because of your own ineptness.

We learn that democracies are the rarest form of government in the history of human kind. For each democracy born was short-lived, either due to corruption, mendacious leaders or complicity in the destruction of that with which we are endowed by the virtue of the human soul. Humans allowed fear to win over freedom. Humans allowed fear to win over individuality. Humans allowed the political classes to declare themselves above Nature and Nature’s God. Humans allowed the political class to manipulate the true blessings of Nature and Nature’s God in exchange for bread and circuses and life without responsibility.

Those who wish to make a Godless society, those that wish to deny Nature’s blessings upon humankind are the enemy of freedom, of liberty and justice. Those that decide that our rights come from the will of a self-perpetuating narcissistic ruling class rather than the exigencies of humanity’s right to existence are the enemies of a free people.

Those who presuppose that they are more powerful than the Universe run roughshod over humanity’s inherent rights. Those that denigrate the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God, denigrate our greatest gift. Be careful of those that put themselves above the wonders of the Universe. For they will laud themselves over you, making of themselves a new deity while decrying the freedoms we hold so dear.

I wanted to wish everyone a joyous Independence Day. Let us not forget those that sacrificed so much so that we, their posterity, would enjoy the freedoms to which we are entitled under the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God. By the way, just one of those obnoxious asides, the vote on the Independence Resolution, aka the Lee Resolution, actually took place on July 2, 1776. The Declaration was not read to the public until July 4, which is why July 4th is the day that we celebrate our Independence.

He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
